Here at California Paints there is one thing we love almost as much as shopping local.... and that's our painting contractors. We appreciate their loyalty, expertise and passion for using our paint, especially our Rated #1* exterior house paint, Fres~Coat. Plus, they shop local! As a home owner, you may be confused about whether or not you should hire a contractor or tackle the project yourself. No fear! Today I'll break down the good, the better, and the best reasons for hiring a professional with a little help from the Paint Quality Institute! Let's get started.Contractor

Choosing a painting contractor not only supplies you with the best finish possible, but it is also a great way to save time and stress during a paint project. There are a few things the Paint Quality Institute suggests you consider to determine if hiring a professional is right for you. Ask yourself:

  • “How much prep time is required?”

  • “Will I be able to accomplish the physical labor required for relocating furniture or handling a ladder?”

  • “Is there a chance I will leave the project unfinished if other aspects of my life become a higher priority?”

The answers to these questions will lead you to your decision.  If you answered “a lot, no, and possibly” then I’d say the solution is clear.  If I were you, I would definitely consider hiring a painting contractor for this project.  (Then again, I’d probably have to be making more than an intern’s salary to do so!!)

When hiring a painting contractor, there a few more things the Paint Quality Institute suggests you consider. Their first tip is to make a complete outline of the work that you believe needs to get done.  That way you can receive accurate quotes from multiple contractors.  Exterior Contractor ProjectThis leads me to tip number two.  Get multiple quotes and inquire about insurance, bonding, and warranty.  These are all things that will help you choose the right painting contractor.  However, your decision should not be limited to these factors alone.  Research should also be done either on the web or by asking potential contractors for recommendations from previous customers.  This will provide you with peace of mind that you are getting the best paint job from a contractor that is punctual and professional.  Punctuality and professionalism can also be determined by each contractor's presentation and response time.  Are they polite and well dressed? How long does it take them to respond to you and are they on time for appointments? These are questions you should ask yourself during the hiring process.  Finally, the Paint Quality Institute insists you request the highest quality paint (California Paints! Duh).  Although it may come with a higher price tag it, will pay off with its durability and long life.  Following these recommendations when hiring a painting contractor will provide you not only with a great finish but it will also give you the pleasure of working with professional, courteous and skilled contractors!

Hiring a contractor should save you time and stress, not add to it!  Following these guidelines provided by the Paint Quality Institute will ensure not only a great experience but also an exceptional paint job.  To learn more about the Paint Quality Institute’s tips on hiring a painting contractor make sure to check out their website!
